Psychiatric-Mental Health & Family Nurse Practitioner
Nana Ama Oduro is a dual board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner with advanced training in evidence-based psychiatric care. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Samuel Merritt University and completed her Post-Graduate Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health at Shenandoah University. Her background includes over a decade of nursing experience, spanning inpatient psychiatry, integrated primary care, and crisis services.
Ms. Oduro specializes in treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions—including depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and substance use disorders—across diverse populations and age groups. With clinical experience in both hospital and outpatient settings, she is committed to providing safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive care that supports each patient’s emotional, behavioral, and psychological wellness.
I know what it means to push for a goal. I am Dr. Abigirl Hene, a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps. I specialize in helping high-performing professionals, students, and athletes navigate the pressure to succeed without losing themselves in the process.
My journey through my career has taught me that resilience isn’t just a buzzword, it is a daily practice. I bring that same grit to my practice. Whether you are an executive managing burnout, a student facing academic anxiety, or an athlete recovering from a setback, I understand the drive to perform. My approach is holistic and evidence-based.
I don’t believe in “cookie-cutter” care. I combine evidence-based psychiatry with a holistic view of your physical and emotional health to help you perform at your best.
We won’t just manage symptoms; we will look at your sleep, your physical health and your environment to build a strategy that works.
My goal is for you to be independent. Mental Health is a partnership, not a crutch.
I want to give you the tools, insight, and confidence so that you no longer need me.
If you are ready to do the work, I am ready to listen. Let’s make a plan that fits your ambition and your values.
More About Me
I believe that the most powerful changes begin with the smallest steps. During one of the most difficult times in my life, I learned to focus not on the entire journey, but simply on making it through one day at a time. That mindset, breaking challenges into small, manageable pieces is something I bring to my work with clients every day.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and experimenting with cultural recipes (pasta dishes are my favorite!), and I love puzzles and brain games that challenge me to think in new ways.
Dr. Abigirl Hene is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to helping individuals find balance, confidence, and lasting wellness. Serving the Northern Virginia community, she provides evidence-based care for adolescents, adults, and seniors navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions.
Dr. Hene’s approach goes beyond symptom management. With a background in primary care, she treats the “whole person”, connecting the dots between physical health, environment, and emotional well-being. She empowers driven individuals, from corporate professionals to students, to turn stress into strength.
Her path to psychiatry is defined by a deep passion for service. Dr. Hene understands the unique stressors facing military families, veterans, and high-pressure professionals. Her ability to remain calm under pressure and lead with integrity was honed through years of service to her country.
Dr. Hene believes therapy and medication management should never feel like a transaction. Her practice is built on the belief that everyone’s story is unique and worth hearing. In her care, clients find a safe, judgment-free partnership designed to empower them with the tools to manage life’s challenges independently.
Whether you are dealing with PTSD, adjustment issues, or simply feeling “stuck,” her goal is to empower you with the tools to eventually manage life’s challenges independently.
